Assembly with pneumatic tooth clutch for automatic bottling machines

Complete solution with microswitch

At a glance
  • Industry Liquid packaging
  • Requirement Correct torque transmission
  • Solution Assembled clutch with microswitch
  • Benefit Prevention of transmission damage

Application overview

Application
Automatic bottling machines
Customer type
Machine manufacturer
Scenario
Intermittent cycles with high torque
Working environment
Standard industrial environment
Usage conditions
  • Required engagement type: at standstill
  • Lubrication conditions: dry running

The design challenge

The machine manufacturer asked us to install a solution that would ensure reliable torque transmission: if transmission was interrupted, a signal had to be activated to stop the entire machine automation system, in order to avoid damage to the components and to the ongoing production cycle. It was also necessary to supply the complete assembly to avoid any structural modifications to the machine by the customer.

Summary
Before
  • Manual engagement
  • Risk of damage to the automation system
Objective
  • Automatic stop
  • No machine modifications required

The solution with PNZZ pneumatic tooth clutches

The adopted solution consists of an assembly made up of the PNZZ pneumatic tooth clutch and a microswitch. The microswitch controls the opening/closing of the clutch: when the two toothed parts are engaged and therefore transmitting torque, the microswitch is deactivated. When compressed air is removed from the two parts, the microswitch comes into contact with a metal disc mounted on the clutch and sends a signal detected by the control panel on the machine, indicating that transmission has been interrupted.

In practice
  • A PNZZ + microswitch assembly for the machine, connected to the machine control panel
  • It controls the working cycle through a solenoid valve connected to the panel

How it works in the application

  • Function Engagement/disengagement
  • Operating mode Compressed air, 6 bar
  • Operating conditions Intermittent cycles, high torque
  • Key feature Very low maintenance
  • Toothing Triangular

Benefits for the machine manufacturer

Automation safety
Controlled stop of the system and machine cycle.
Ease of use
Control via solenoid valve instead of a mechanical lever.
